Garden Festival! Music, sun and fun in Croatia!
This press release contains news on what happened during this year’s Garden Festival Croatia, which featured everything from tattoos and Tensnake, massages to Mayer Hawthorne and a whole lotta love too... Plus the dates are announced for 2011 as the Garden goes “Back To Its Roots” from Weds 6th - Weds 13th July!Check www.thegardenfestival.eu for the latest info – new site goes live on the 1st August!
The Garden Festival’s 5th anniversary was quite simply the best yet, a seamless segueing of chilled beats, sun-kissed vibes and frolicking in the warm Adriatic waters during the day through to dancing under the stars, making new friends from all over the world and rounding the night off to deep house and delectable disco in the lovingly restored Barbarellas Discotheque. Set in a simply stunning coastal fishing village, Petrcane, the festival embodies nourishment for the heart and soul, an effervescent fusion of enrichment and enchantment.
Party people flocked from all over the world to immerse themselves in an incredible festival experience set on a pine-shaded peninsular set over two beatific weekends. With inspired live shows and DJ sets by day and night, fine local food and drink, plenty of sunshine - and shade too! - and a bit of dancing in the sea, the Garden Festival remains a unique proposition on the festival calendar.
But just don’t take our word for it – here’s what some of this year’s artists had to say about their time at the Garden...
• Sir Norman Jay: "Just returned from the boat party to end ALL boat parties - was witness to some of the most incredible party scenes EVER on water!"
• Phenomenal Handclap Band: “What an amazing time we had last weekend. You guys are really up to something special, and we all feel honoured to have been a part of it. That party on the boat was one for the books, for sure! Our minds were blown time and time again over those few days; what a trip!"
• Mayer Hawthorne: "Mayer says: “Amazing! The only way they could get me off the stage was to promise they’d bring me back next year.”
• Rob Da Bank: “The Garden Festival and Petrcane really opened my eyes to a whole new festival scene happening in Croatia. A beautiful place, amazing people and an eclectic music policy right up my street - and it was sunny from start to finish! I can’t wait to go back!”
• The Revenge: "A magical place with a soundtrack to match. I doubt there's another event on this planet that matches the combination of music lovers and location quite as well. I'm missing the Pina Coladas already."
• Mr Scruff: “The Garden Festival in 2010 was, as always, a very special event. Loads of lovely people, many old friends, stunning surroundings, great sound system & a lovely mellow party atmosphere. Roll on 2011!”
The Garden grows... and brings hot new talent to Croatia!
The Garden Festival enjoyed its most diverse lineup yes, including Hercules and Love Affair’s stand-out Sunday session on the Main Stage, with Mayer Hawthorne’s inspired and uplifting music getting everyone into the groove earlier that evening. Radio 1’s Rob Da Bank illuminated the Tiki Bar with his sublime sunset set; and speaking of sublime, that true master of eclecticism, Mr Scruff, demonstrated why he remains the master of extended sets featuring music sources from across the globe – see below for access to his 4-hour set.
The lucky few witnessed what Norman Jay called his best boat party – ever – in 30 years, with Breakestra’s Chali 2na singing live. Check http://twitter.com/normanjaymbe. So many amazing sets and shows deserve special mention, from Resident Advisor’s simply brilliant boat party with Seth Troxler and Sebo K to Futureboogie’s own adventure on the high seas. Who can forget No Fakin’s Friday night storming set or the genre-bending sounds of Qool DJ Marv, or Greg Wilson’s master class and legendary Leeds outfit 20:20 Soundsystem electrifying everyone with their electronica?! And what about label parties from Innervisions, Sick Trumpet and Future Disco or Henrik Schwarz’s hands-in-the-air closing Sunday set?
People from all over the world descend on the Garden...
This was the first Garden Festival which saw party people coming from as far afield as Brazil – a Garden first! - to compliment a vibrant and friendly crowd split over both weekends from countries across Europe as well as the USA and Australia. Each year Gardeners come from further and further afield, drawn to lazy days under the sun and partying under star-filled skies until dawn. Next year is all set to bring in an even wider scope of people!

Back To Our Roots for 2011
Plans have already been announced for 2011, with the festival taking place over one weekend featuring a full 6 days of programming, from Wednesday 6th – Wednesday 13th July.
Nick Colgan, one of the founders of the Garden Festival, explains that: “We always want to keep building on the concept and improving not only the Garden Festival itself but also the whole summer season of other festivals too. So for 2011 we have decided to do one long weekend for the Garden to free up another weekend for an external promoter to get involved. We are already putting together a cracking lineup and are looking forward to welcoming back old friends and new faces for next summer.”
Don’t forget the new www.watchthegardengrow.eu site goes live on 1st August 2010 – there will be lots of info appearing there for 2011...
