Adam Shelton champions music that is true to itself, and sounds crafted only for the best of times. Known to many as one of the UK’s strongest resident DJ’s, Adam has spent the last decade quietly sketching out his own definition of authenticity.
His skills, versatility and range have seen him guest at some of the world’s best clubbing spots including Panorama Bar, Cocoon, Back to Basics, The Garden Festival in Croatia and Space in Ibiza. In times like these, this is an accomplishment indeed without any productions of his own – until now.
An avid vinyl collector himself, Adam has recently launched One Records alongside Subb-an, friend and resident of Adam’s own night, Below. The label aims to encapsulate the energy and dexterity of artists and crowds that the party has connected with most, and doing exactly that their first release ‘The Musik EP’ brought two deep and off-kilter acid house tracks, with praise from DJ Mag, Radio 1 and Germany’s De:Bug magazine, amongst others.
Now in its fifth year, Below continues to be one of the most cutting edge parties in the UK. Showcasing a selection of the world’s premier DJ’s in its unique and intimate environment, the night has given Adam the scope to experiment with a wide range of musical styles. Drawing its influences from the raw beginnings of the early secretsundaze parties as well as late 90’s DC10, the party started in the courtyard of a small Victorian boozer one Sunday afternoon in summer.
Relatively low key at first, Adam and his co-promoters Ross Trepleton and Lee McDonald soon recognised the natural growing vibe from month to month. Eventually taking a licensees course and buying up the venue, The Rainbow Pub, Adam has shaped the place with his own bare hands and seen it grow to become one of the UK’s most diverse and talked about small venues, having won accolades from The Guardian, Fused Magazine, Vice and The Independent. Perhaps the most important reward of all has been in bringing a dramatic new lease of life to Birmingham’s long ailing club scene.
This next year will see Adam stepping forward to unleash his talent on a wider audience, no longer just as a resident DJ but as a force to be reckoned with in his own right.
