Emma Chibuku

Emma Chibuku

Emma’s journey from the dance floor to behind the decks has taken her to some of the world’s best clubs, constantly developing her very personal appreciation of house music which has seen her evolve into a much in-demand female DJ. After a formative year abroad spent less at university and more at beach parties on the French Riviera, it was only a matter of time before she got behind the decks herself. She returned in 2001 and, after the theft of her beloved CD collection, she started buying records, around the same time that Chibuku started gathering pace. As the host of the very first Chibuku afterparties, it was a natural progression when she was asked to become a resident at their spiritual home - the Lemon Lounge. Following the move to the Masque/Barfly venue, Emma’s profile quickly grew as she forged something of a female resistance at the club, growing into an established and much respected Chibuku resident. She has since played alongside some of her heroes, such as Green Velvet, Etienne De Crecy, Justin Robertson, Stacey Pullen, Andrew Weatherall, Cassius and The Idjut Boys. She has warmed up the main room at Nation for Groove Armada at the legendary Ian Brown @ Chibuku night, a personal milestone having been a permanent fixture on the dance floor whilst Bugged Out had its residency there. Emma has played across the UK and beyond, including Fabric, The End and Lowlife. Several trips to New York took in sets at Manhattan club APT and an unforgettable NYE at the Music Gallery. Croatia's burgeoning festival scene is the next international port of call this summer where she is on the bill at both the Garden Festival and the Electric Elephant. Now residing in Manchester, Emma has graced the decks at local nights including The Warehouse Project, Electric Chair, Sankeys and Contort Yourself. Her style has matured with sets traversing the sublime across the deeper end of the house, disco and techno spectrums, but always crafted around a solid 4/4 heartbeat. With some cracking gigs coming up soon, it's onwards and upwards for this lady of the dance!
